Skills assessment in the service of human relations

collectif, la force de l'équipe

Do you find it hard to stay calm when you receive an email from your desk neighbor, even though they're sitting right next to you? Or when someone sends you a task without asking how you're doing first? Are you unsure how to deal with your manager who seems to be all over the place, constantly changing their mind and direction, or your colleague who only sees what's wrong?

How can a career transition assessment help you to work better with these different personalities?

=>Because a skills assessment also helps you get to know yourself better, understand your working methods at work and those of others. It explores the soft skills (soft skills in French), through debriefings of psychometric questionnaires such as the DISC®, MBTI®, EQ-I 2.0® (Emotional intelligence).

And for your information, developing your interpersonal skills is booming because 88% recruiters are looking for employees with high emotional intelligence (Robert Half study) and 741% of managers and 581% of employees surveyed believe that IE will become an essential skill in the next 5 years. (Cap Gemini study).

That's convenient because in the’Emotional Intelligence there are the interpersonal skills following: self-awareness, self-expression, human relations, empathy, flexibility, optimism, impulse control, etc.

Let's take a few examples from the MBTI® personality questionnaire to help you better understand how you tend to function, how you need to be in relationships, and how to approach someone who is different from or opposite to you.

Of course, you can find a little bit of yourself in both descriptions. The important thing is to understand that people have different frames of reference.

Let's imagine you're quite extroverted and your office neighbor is rather introverted. And that might be why they're emailing you instead of talking to you directly, even though they're right next to you!

Imagine that you are someone who needs concrete information, details, and clear instructions, and your manager gives you long-term, overall objectives that only provide a glimpse of future possibilities. How would you feel?

Let's imagine you tend to act and make decisions based on your values, and that harmony in human relationships is crucial to you. It's certain that if you receive an impersonal email that doesn't even ask how you are, you'll be somewhat irritated. And yet, some people can also be irritated by the wasted time and reduced productivity that mere politeness can cause.

In human relationships, "hearts" need:

In human relationships, the "heads" need:

I was talking about your manager who changes her mind and action plan very often, who procrastinates and improvises, whereas you prefer structure, planning, and a framework. It's not that she doesn't respect you, it's that she probably doesn't operate the same way you do.

In human relationships, "planners" need:

In human relationships, "improvisers" need:

So, how will this help you in your daily professional and personal relationships? Do you perceive that there are no ill intentions towards you in someone's behavior, but simply different ways of seeing things and operating? What a beautiful diversity, which can be a real opportunity for synergy if it is recognized and acknowledged!
